Prof Les Bokey AM

For more than five decades, Professor Les Bokey has been a driving force in medical innovation, research and surgical excellence. Now retired, Professor Bokey has held influential leadership roles, including Institute Director at The Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research, Director of Research for South Western Sydney Local Health District, and Director of Surgery at Liverpool Hospital.

His leadership has transformed healthcare locally, nationally and globally. A pioneer in colorectal cancer treatment, robotic surgery and health automation, Professor Bokey’s work has saved countless lives and inspired generations of clinicians and researchers.

His vision for global health equity through health technology led to the establishment of The Perich Centre for Robotics & Health Technology at The Ingham Institute, one of only a few centres in Australasia fully dedicated to research, development and training in automation, robotics and automated processes in healthcare.

Professor Bokey’s legacy is defined by vision, integrity and lasting impact. His contributions have laid a strong foundation for future discoveries, ensuring ongoing benefits for patients and communities in South Western Sydney and beyond through innovative and compassionate care.
