Professor Harrison is an internationally recognised researcher whose work centres on improving the safety, quality and experience of healthcare systems. Throughout her career she has led international collaborations, contributed to influential publications, and helped shape the global evidence base for safer, more effective healthcare.
She has built a strong reputation for leading multidisciplinary research programs that bring together clinicians, policymakers, patients and communities to redesign healthcare delivery. Most recently, she served as Director of Research at the Australian Institute of Health Innovation at Macquarie University, where she led a significant program of health equity research alongside major initiatives in patient safety, healthcare quality improvement, patient engagement, and the translation of evidence into clinical practice.
In this role, Professor Harrison led diverse teams of researchers, clinicians and health system partners, translating complex research findings into practical improvements in health service performance. Her work has consistently involved co-design with patients and frontline clinicians to ensure research outcomes reflect the realities of care delivery.
Professor Harrison is also widely recognised for her commitment to building research capability across the sector. This includes mentoring early-career researchers and clinicians, developing training programs in implementation science and healthcare improvement, and contributing to national and international research networks focused on patient safety and quality.
As an Executive Board Member of the Health Services Research Association of Australia and New Zealand, and as a Grant Review Panel Member for the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), she has played an active role in shaping Australia's research landscape and investment priorities at a national level.
Professor Harrison also holds an Adjunct Professor appointment at UNSW Sydney. Dean of UNSW Medicine and Health, Professor Cheryl Jones, expressed her enthusiasm for the appointment: "We are excited that Professor Harrison will be leading the Ingham Institute into the future.
