World First Remote Robotic Cardiac Procedure

Ingham Institute and its partner, Liverpool Hospital in South Western Sydney Local Health District, are pioneering research in remote robotic therapeutics.

A cutting-edge clinical trial at Liverpool Hospital is testing the safety and effectiveness of robot-assisted heart procedures. The world-first randomised controlled clinical trial compared robotic-assisted stent insertion, or Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI), with traditional manual procedures.

This life-saving procedure clears blockages associated with coronary heart disease, a leading cause of death in Australia.

Professor Craig Juergens and Dr James Leung from Ingham Institute’s Cardiology Group appeared on Channel 9 speaking about this groundbreaking trial. Watch it here.

Another exciting step forward in transforming the treatment of public patients in South Western Sydney and achieving the Ingham Institute mission of pioneering global health equity through translational research.
