Dr. Herbert Falk (1924–2008) was a doctor and a pharmaceutical scientist. He founded Dr. Falk Pharma GmbH in 1960, followed by the Falk Foundation in 1978, leaving a lasting impression on the fields of gastroenterology and hepatology both in Germany and internationally.
The Herbert Falk Award, which is international, recognises exceptional research achievements by international researchers in the fields of gastroenterology and hepatology. It is awarded every three years at a Falk Foundation symposium and is endowed with €40,000.
It is the first time in 20 years that this honour has been awarded to a pancreatologist and a woman.
