In “Merlin III- The Invasion” artist Celeste Wrona takes her inspiration from a slide taken from the Merlin microscope in which a tumour is invading muscle tissue.
This artwork looks at the way cancer invades us, invades our families, our bodies, our minds, not just physically but emotionally and mentally. As the cancer cells stretch out and invade the muscle tissue, Celeste sees it’s ability to invade and try to suck the joy out of every moment, every thought and every day. The complete lack of control and the clinging to blind hope that something can be done, that the fight can be won. This piece represents all these thoughts and feelings that so many of us have had. However it also is reflective of the fact that it is the invasion that keeps us searching, keeps us hoping for a better way. It’s this invasion that drives these scientists for a solution and breaking this chain.
