Congratulations Associate Professor Jack Chen, Professor Ken Hillman, Professor Daniel Chan, Associate Professor Deepak Bhonagiri and Dr Lixin Ou, on being the recipients of an Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) Cardiovascular Health Grant. Their work uses machine learning to avoid preventable deaths and improve end of life care in acute hospitals.
This spans several of the Ingham Institute’s core research foci – Cardiovascular Disease, Critical Care, and Robotics & Health Technology.
The project builds on several other peer reviewed grants developing and refining a patient safety system across acute hospitals, resulting in the prevention of deaths and reducing the incidence of severe complications. It is exploring several new aspects of these systems by using AI to refine the earlier and more accurate identifying criteria defining the deteriorating patient. The grant also funds the identification of patients near the end of life, enabling more appropriate and patient centred management.
